Fashion
Zippers replaced buttons because of their inexpensiveness. Styles also did not change every season because clothes had to last a long time because of the Great Depression and peoples' inability to afford clothing.
Woman's Fashion
Women often wore simple dresses with longer hems as compared to the attire of the flapper era. Women's dresses varied with the time of day. For instance, women wore dresses with mid-calf hems during the day and long hems for the evening. Women wore shoes with wide heels and round thick toes. Women had pale faces, but brightened them with lipstick. Hair was fairly short, but long hair became popular near the end of the decade.
Man's Fashion
Men wore wide pants that were high waisted. Suits were popular and influenced much by many gangsters, but men wore sweater vests and blazers as alternatives. Men also wore hats if they wished to appear well-dressed.
