Herbert Hoover was a strong conservative Republican who believed in limited government, which proved to be detrimental after the stock market crash of 1929. He implemented some programs that had lasting effects on relief efforts, but vetoed many bills that were designed to help alleviate the pains of the Great Depression. His views on the federal government made him seem insensitive towards the needs of the American people during the great time of struggle causing him to lose the election of 1932.
