After the stock market crash of 1929, much of the 1930s was filled with devastation and subsequently reconstruction of the lives of Americans and the economic condition of the country. Migrating from the Midwest Plains to California, farmers packed up their lives to escape the Dust Bowl. Others who lived in industrialized cities, mostly in the northeastern region of America, were the first to feel the wave of economic downfall of the "Great Depression".

American people, not void of resourcefulness, learned to be responsible with finances and could no longer afford the extravagances and luxuries of the former decade. Much of the American population was dependent on help from federal programs, which included some that still exist today such as the Social Security Act of 1935. The Depression Era America was not more than could be conquered and a unified confidence that came through federal aid and hard work shaped a stronger America through the 1930s.
